Welcome to FindBiometrics’ digest of identity industry news. Here’s what you need to know about the world of digital identity and biometrics today:

The NSA and CISA Highlight On-device Privacy: Identity News Digest

    NSA, CISA Provide IAM Guidance

The National Security Agency (NSA) and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) have released a new report with the self-explanatory title, “Identity and Access Management Recommended Best Practices Guide for Administrators”. The guide was released as part of the Enduring Security Framework (ESF), a public-private partnership aimed at mitigating threats to critical infrastructure and national security systems. The report notes both the prominence of biometrics in multi-factor authentication systems, and the related concerns about privacy, which the report argues can be alleviated through on-device approaches to storing biometric data.

It is worth noting a growing awareness of the limitations presented by a fully on-device approach to biometric identity — a frequent topic of discussion and debate at the FindBiometrics Virtual Identity Summit series.

JP Morgan to Trial Biometric Payments

JP Morgan will trial biometric payments with partner merchants, enabling customers to complete purchases with a palm or face scan, and without the need to present a payment card, cash, or any other hardware token. The financial services firm says it may also trial the technology at the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix in May, and that successful trials would precede a wider rollout of the technology. The financial services firm’s announcement comes on the heels of the news that Panera Bread will pilot a palm-based biometric payment system from Amazon.

    Ping Launches Decentralized ID Wallet

Ping Identity has launched a new decentralized identity management solution, dubbed “PingOne Neo”. Essentially, the solution enables a user to request a digital identity credential from a participating organization, and to add that credential to their PingOne Neo wallet; it can then be shared with a business that requests it. PineOne Neo is part of an open platform for identity standards organized by the World Wide Web Consortium, the OpenID Foundation, and the International Organization for Standardization.

AuthenticID Delivers Document Verification to Online Gaming KYC Platform

AuthenticID will provide identity verification technology for CentralAMS’s online gambling-focused KYC compliance platform, “Identity Orchestration”. While AuthenticID offers a selfie-based biometric identity verification solution, a statement announcing the new partnership specified that it would entail the provision of its identity document verification software. AuthenticID became a member of the FIDO Alliance earlier this year.

    Incode Forges Hospitality-focused Partnership

Incode has partnered with Advanced Living Technologies (“ALTec”) and its sister company AT-Visions. The former offers SONIO, an identity platform aimed at the hospitality industry, while AT-Visions is known for IP streaming and digital signage solutions in the same sector. The partnership will see ALTec leverage Incode’s biometric identity verification technology to enhance the hotel guest experience through KYC, age verification, and “Know Your Date” applications; AT-Visions, meanwhile, will act as a reseller of ALTec’s upgraded solutions.

FacePhi Co-founds Social Impact Research Project

FacePhi has co-founded a new academic research project with IE University and INUIT Foundation, a Spanish investment vehicle focused on social impact. The project, dubbed “JOIN4IMPACT”, will accordingly be focused on promoting projects aimed at delivering a positive social impact. It will have an initial term of three years; and it will see the publication of an annual research report available to the public. The project will leverage FacePhi’s and other partners’ experience in business training and technological research in pursuit of its broader social aims.
