Glowing globe showing North and South America.

Welcome to FindBiometrics’ digest of identity industry news. Here’s what you need to know about the world of digital identity and biometrics today:

Behavioral Biometrics Specialist Certified as Government of Canada Vendor

Ottawa-based behavioral biometrics specialist Zighra has been approved as a digital identity security vendor to the Government of Canada through its “Pathway to Commercialization Program,” opening the door to contracts valued up to $8 million, without further competition. The certification comes after a successful trial of Zighra’s technology with the Royal Canadian Navy. The company says its SilentEdge digital identity software solution offers the world’s first patented, FIDO-certified behavioral biometrics technology, and that it enables continuous multi-factor authentication.

OpenAI Founder’s Crypto Project Launches “World ID”

Worldcoin has officially launched its “World ID” decentralized identity protocol, laying the groundwork for a planned Worldcoin cryptocurrency token and a crypto wallet app. The Worldcoin project was co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and raised eyebrows in 2021 when news broke of its plans to tie currencyholders’ identities to their iris biometrics using a mysterious biometric “orb” device. The orb is still in play, though it’s only available through certain Worldcoin operator locations in Argentina, Chile, India, Kenya, Portugal and Spain; and users can also sign up for the World ID via phone number verification, reports Axios.

Biometric Security Negates Need for Passport Replacement After Cyberattack, Says NZ Government

New Zealand’s Department of Internal Affairs is banking on biometric security to reassure Kiwis of their identity security after a serious cyberattack against Latitude Financial, which operates the finance companies Genoapay and Gem Visa. Over 1,300 New Zealanders’ passport details are believed to have been stolen in the attack, but a DIA representative said there is no need for the individuals affected to apply for a replacement passport, asserting, “Our Department has robust controls that protect passports from identity takeover, including sophisticated facial recognition technology.”

New Casino Management System Features Biometric Tech

The gambling company Novomatic has launched a new Casino Management System that incorporates biometric technologies. In a statement announcing the new “Novovision” system, the company did not elaborate on the modalities supported; but an image of a Novomatic device depicted a user undergoing a thumb scan. The company will unveil the solution at next week’s GAT Cartagena event, which is slated to run from March 29th to 30th at the Las Américas Convention Center.

Telaeris Announces Access Control Integration With Galaxy

Telaeris’s XPressEntry solution has been integrated into Galaxy’s Cloud Concierge platform, enabling the latter’s access control customers to take advantage of Telaeris’s biometric handheld devices and kiosk readers. “Telaeris has and will continue to be a trusted and value-added partner to the Galaxy product offering,” said Galaxy Control Systems CEO Rick Caruthers. Over 30 access control systems now support Telaeris’s XPressEntry solution; last September, the company announced a partnership with IDEMIA enabling XPressEntry interoperability with IDEMIA’s ID Screen fingerprint scanning tablets.

Online Gaming Automation Startup Integrates Yoti’s ID Tech

Flows, the provider of an online-gambling focused automation platform, has partnered with digital identity specialist Yoti to help clients establish regulatory compliance. The company is integrating Yoti’s digital ID and identity verification technology into its platform, with CEO James King explaining that the move will provide Flows customers “with easy access to leading identity verification technology so that they are able to provide fast customer verification on-demand instantly improving the overall KYC process.”
